Welfare states in the Nordic countries have in several decennials had some goals in common, but there are also decisive differences, for example when it comes to industrial development, urban planning, and migration and refugee policies. These disagreements and differences are of central concern for our network’s ambitions. Starting from the analysis of postindustrial development pattern we will direct our attention towards youth’s segregation – and integration processes. The network will create conditions for a common Nordic cooperation with the aim to show and reflect upon differences and similarities in the Nordic countries’ development patterns. Our network has the intention to let the described scientific horizons of knowledge generated in the respective countries speak with each other in a fruitful dialogue.
In addition to the internal network seminars, the network has hosted a series of seminars with international scholars such as Paul Gilroy, Loïc Waquant and Mustafa Dicek.

See the website

SERIES FROM BERGHAHN BOOKS: FORCED MIGRATION

This series, published in association with the Refugees Studies Centre, University of Oxford, reflects the multidisciplinary nature of the field and includes within its scope international law, anthropology, medicine, geopolitics, social psychology and economics.
General Editor: Roger Zetter, Refugee Studies Centre, University of Oxford.

More information

CONFERENCES AND SEMINARS

* CLANDESTINE – DOCUMENTING UNDOCUMENTED AFRICAN TRANSIT MIGRATION
Seminar, Danish Institute for International Studies.
Date: 30 November 2010, 14.00-16.00.
Venue: Main Auditorium, Strandgade 71, ground floor, Copenhagen.

More information

* IMMIGRANT CONCENTRATION IN SCHOOLS AND THE EFFECT ON SCHOOLCHILDREN’S PERFORMANCE
Astrid Würtz (Dept. of Economics, Aarhus School of Business)
CESEM Seminar.
Date: 10 December 2010, 13.00-15.00.
Venue: University of Copenhagen.

More information

* THE CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN GREEK SOCIETY: TOLERANCE, ACCEPTANCE OR RECOGNITION?
9th National Roundtable against discrimination.
Organizers: ACCEPT PLURALISM and ANTIGONE- Information and documentation centre on racism, ecology, peace and non violence.
Date: 20 December 2010.
Venue: Hotel Titania, Athens (Greece).

More information

* CONTESTED SPATIALITIES OF LIFESTYLE MIGRATION – PUBLIC POLICIES, LOCAL DEMOCRACY AND GLOBAL MARKET FORCES
Call for papers.
