The theme for the Nordic Migration Researcher Conference points to issues of sovereignty, demarcation, distinction, exclusion and discrimination, but also to issues of transience, communication across distinction, and acceptance. The intention is to relate<br \/>\nfeminist thinking and feminist theory on citizenship with a specific<br \/>\nattention to care together with the empirical tendency towards<br \/>\nEuropeanization of welfare and changes in European societies taking<br \/>\nplace presently. The overall aim is to develop new theoretical insights<br \/>\non this field. In doing so, the relationship between Europeanization and<br \/>\nglobalization dynamics needs to be discussed and theoretized anew.<\/p>\n<p>We envisage contributions that thematize theories of citizenship with an<br \/>\nattention to care (its various forms) and to discussions about the<br \/>\nemergence of the contours of a European social citizenship. We invite<br \/>\ntheoretical as well as empirical papers * and attempt to create an<br \/>\ninterdisciplinary conference with a maximum of 40 participants from<br \/>\nvarious disciplines representing different modes of reasoning.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference will include the following, confirmed key note speakers:<\/p>\n<p>* Joan Tronto (Professor, Dept. of Political Science, Hunters College, CUNY)<br \/>\n* Judith Squires (Professor, Dept. of Political Science, University of<br \/>\nBristol)<br \/>\n* Fiona Williams (Professor, Dept. of Sociology and Social Policy,<br \/>\nUniversity of Leeds)<br \/>\n* Kev\u00e4t Nousiainen (Professor. The final deadline for papers is set for 17th of March 2008.<\/p>\n<p>We expect the keynote speeches and some of the presented papers to lead<br \/>\nto a publication in a book series by Edwin Elgar.<\/p>\n<p>Participation and costs:<br \/>\nThe conference is open to all members of the CINEFOGO Network as well as<br \/>\nfor other interested researchers throughout Europe. The workshop will take place at the Social Science<br \/>\nResearch Center Berlin on 11 &#8211; 16 June 2008.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;Irmgard Coninx Research Grant&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An international jury will award a three-months fellowship to three<br \/>\nparticipants to be used for research at the Social Science Research Center<br \/>\nBerlin, the Humboldt-University Berlin and the State library Berlin. The<br \/>\nGrant includes a monthly stipend of EUR 1,000 plus accommodation and its<br \/>\nwinners will be invited to join a follow-up workshop in Berlin in<br \/>\n2008\/2009.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;Program details&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In continuation of previous Roundtables on population politics and on<br \/>\nmigration into cities, the Eight Berlin Roundtables on Transnationality<br \/>\nwill focus on \u201cCollective Identities, Governance and Empowerment in<br \/>\nMegacities\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These issues will be discussed in three workshops chaired.
